Her father was Japanese, and her mother is a Black, Choctaw, Irish and German woman from Texas; but Ai was a native of Tucson, Arizona. Subjects of these focussed poems include Trotsky, Mishima, Marilyn Monroe, a follower of Zapata, etc.
