About This Item

Glendale, California: Forest Lawn, 1948. Book. Very Good. Soft cover. Stapled booklet with rubbing wear along the spine and a short tear at the foot of the spine. Approximately 5.5 X 8.5 inches. Forest Lawn guide to handling funeral arrangements, with an emphasis of making it easy for the bereaved family. Published by Forest Lawn circa 1948. No publication date or place indicated in the booklet, but there is a card inside dated 1948 that is an admittance to the "Memorial Court of Honor, Forest Lawn Mausoleum Enshrining Moretti's World-Famous Masterpiece, "The Last Supper" Window and Reproductions of Michaelangelo's Greatest Sculptures." A section of the booklet, titled "The Story of the Last Supper Window" states that people come from around the globe to view it. Sexism in the funeral industry in that era (before and beyond some decades, as well) is evidenced by the following passage on page 18 that uses the inclusion of women staff as a selling point: "A woman's thoughtfulness and understanding mean much at a time of sorrow. Forest Lawn's Mortuary staff includes women as well as men-to give that extra measure of sympathetic attention to detail so helpful to bereaved families.".
