The king ruled Belgium during World War I, during which his nation was conquered, occupied, and ruled by the German Empire under Kaiser Wilhelm II. Interior pages consist of tributes to the King by notable worldwide personages, along with tipped-in color artworks, musical selections and drawings. With frontis sepia-toned portrait of the King and an introduction by Hall Caine. --- In blue cloth-covered boards with cover & spine titling in cream; text presented on buff-colored leaves. Volume lacks a dust jacket. --- With some loss of spine titling, and with a partial split near front hinge (which doesn't affect the stabilility of the binding), else a tightly-bound, sound, well-preserved copy.; Small Quarto - 9 to 11 in. tall; 188 pages .
