Melbourne: The Spectator Publishing Company, 1891. 1st. 4to. 431, [1] pp. Decorative chapter initials, head and tail pieces. Publisher's brown pebbled boards with blindstamped lettering and design to front board. Laid in is a single sheet advertising broadside titled "Have You Read The Kings of the Reefs? If not, you should!" Rubbing to boards & spine, moreso to extremities with corners starting else a very good copy. Carey lived in the Fiji Islands from 1859 through 1875, writing this poem in the 1860's. "Interwoven wit hthe historical portions of the work, which cover a period of one hundred and thirty years, more or less, is a good deal of fiction from the legends of the islands; and, interspersed with fact and fiction, are manners and customs of the people, with words of wisdom from their sages."
