With over 3,500 black and white illustrations of ornamental marks. 8vo, original dark blue paper-covered boards backed in gray cloth lettered in blue on the spine, in the illustrated dustjacket. xii, 290 pp. (including index). A pristine copy. This volume provides the quickest and easiest way to identify more than 3,500 American, European, and East Asian marks, and remains the most comprehensive reference for nineteenth- and twentieth-century marks. It is organized in pictorial categories for referential ease, and each mark is clearly illustrated and accompanied with the factory, city, and country of origin, material used, color of the mark, date the mark was used, and name of the current company (which may have changed since the piece was made). Also included are handy supplements on dating systems, vocabulary, fakes and forgeries, etc. A handy reference for determining value of pieces of pottery and porcelain.
