About This Item
Karel Capek (1890-1938) was a Czech writer best known for his play R.U.R. (1920), which first introduced the world to the word robot. First published in Capek's native Czech, this novel explores man's abuse of power through scientific invention. This work seemingly predicted the atom bomb over two decades before The Trinity test of the Manhattan Project. It was first published in English in 1925.
