Hardcover. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. cream, gilt, blind-stamped cloth,(Kriss Kringle decorating a Christmas tree stamped in gilt on upper board) gilt decorated spine, 160 pages, illustrations, including, title page + (14) full page plates, numerous, wood engravings, head and tail pieces, wood engravings variously signed "Brightly." Abel Bowen,George Gilbert, and Neville Johnson.Stories,prose,and verses by various authors intended as a Christmas gift.Some verses by Mrs. M.E. Robbins. "The Village blacksmith " is by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. some light spots to covers, two lines in ink on front blank dated September/46. 6 of the illustrations appearing early in the book have been very neatly hand colored. A Very Good copy of a RARE children's juvenile annual. A very early depiction of Kriss Kringle (Santa Claus) and of a Christmas tree. The trimming of a Christmas tree did not become widely practiced in America until after 1850..
