About This Item

Amstelodami [Amsterdam]: Ex officina Henrici et viduae Theodori Boom, 1682. Hardcover. The philosopher, statesman, orator, and tragedian Seneca (circa 4 BCE - 65 CE) was Rome's leading intellectual figure in the mid-1st century and was virtual ruler with his friends of the Roman world between 54 and 62, during the first phase of the emperor Nero's reign. Octavo: [lx], 785, [xxxix] p. with the engraved title page. Full vellum binding, with yapp edges and a later gilt-stamped leather spine label. Mild toning to the index. The armorial bookplate of Maurice Benedict de Worms (1805-67) appears on the front pastedown. Some general dust staining to the top edge. The vellum is soiled, more so along the spine, with a bit of loss to the spine label (not affecting the title).
