Springfield, Ill: Edwin A. Wilson, Publisher [1882-1883], 1883. Hardcover. Very Good+. 4to. Bound monthly parts of a magazine. [1], 2-191, [2] 18-95, [1] pp. Half contemporary brown leather over dark grey cloth, spine with gold lettering and gilt rules; all edges decoratively stained red. Each part's first page illustrated by a wood engraving, with multiple full-page and in-text engravings throughout. The beginning of the volume is illustrated with a color lithograph of a girl playing on the beach, issued with Volume XIII. Contains Volume XII, parts 1, 2, 4, 6 thorugh 10, and 12, and Volume XIII parts 2 through 6 of The Labor of Love, a monthly children's magazine intended to promote Christianity and to encourage children to pray. The magazine parts contain songs, parables and short stories, and poems. A touch of wear to the extremities and a contemporary gift inscription on the free front endpaper.
