A fine unblemished bright copy of the First Edition [very minor rubs at the tips] in the publisher's embossed blue boards with white decorations & titling on the upper cover & spine; decorated endpapers [frontis + 3 plates by Herman PfeiferIn], in a very good or better example of the rare first issue dustwrapper showing light use, with "LADDIE A TRUE BLUE STORY" & the correct price of a dollar & thirty-five cents on the spine, the back panel blank & without reviews on the flaps. 8vo., pp. [xii], 602. Her most highly regarded fictionalized autobiography of her own childhood growing up in the Limberlost Swamp, Wabash, Indiana. Gene Stratton-Porter [1863 - 1924]. An American author, amateur naturalist, wildlife photographer, & one of the earliest women to form a movie studio & production company. She wrote some best-selling novels & well-received columns in national magazines, such as McCalls. Her works were translated into several languages, including Braille, & Stratton-Porter was estimated to have 50 million readers around the world. She used her position & income as a well-known author to support conservation of Limberlost Swamp & other wetlands in the state of Indiana. Her novel A Girl of the Limberlost was adapted four times as a film, most recently in 1990 in a made-for-TV version. Smith S-1013.
