About This Item

New York, New York, U.S.A.: Grove Press, Inc., 1959. First Thus . Hardcover. Very Good+/VG-. After years of censorship & much uproar about this book in Europe in the late 1920s, it was published in the US in 1930, but only in a much-abridged version. The present volume represents the Original Unexpurgated Edition of this classic work of erotica & English class society, representing the Third Manuscript Version orig. published in Italy in 1928 (First, Thus). Published in 1959 by the Grove Press (noted purveyors of censored books), it contains a lengthy & informative Introduction by Mark Schorer & Preface by Archibald Macleish. Hardcover 8vo has beige cloth-covered boards with a quarter blue cloth-wrapped spine & gilt lettering. Condition is VG+: very clean, binding strong & straight, pages creamy white with a whisper of tanning, unmarked save for shadows of pencil erasures to front endpapers. Mild fading to top edges, slight corner bumping. The unclipped DJ (with orig. $6.00 price on front flap) is VG-, marred by spine fading & light spotting, a few short tears & creasing to top edge of rear & bottom edge of front cover near spine; nicely protected in new mylar cover Free! Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same day shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific); later orders, weekends, & holidays ship very next business day.
