Octavo, [23cm/9.25inches], full gilt-embossed pictorial navy cloth w/ mylar-protected dust jacket, pp. xv, 285 w/ appendices. Illustrated with colour frontis of the author and180 b-w halftone plates as well as two,-unopened- large folded maps of northwestern Canada. The dust jacket boasts a quarter-inch, chip in the upper right hand front corner and a quite attractive map-like tea stain on the backside; otherwise bright and clean. Please feel free to inquire as to particulars and/or additional photographs. ... A First hand account of a three-man mining expedition, -(1911-12)-. along the Coppermine River which straddles the Arctic Circle. With "an account of the wintering at Great Bear Lake, and a second journey down the Coppermine to its mouth; descriptions of the routes (with map), natural history, Indians and Eskimos; the hunting and geological observations and prospecting especially in the Copper Mountains" (Arctic Biblio. 4074). The intro was written by the author's cousin, James Douglas who was responsible for the establishment of numerous copper mines in Arizona and Sonora, (Mexico). With Thomas Sterry Hunt, Douglas was involved with many experiments in the hydrometallurgy of coppers and devised what is known as the "Hunt-Douglas" process, (first patented in1869), for extracting copper from its ores.
