Paris: Godard, 1861. 1st Edition . Leporello. Good. Presumed First Edition, thus. A charming leporello or concertina-style binding, with 24 hand-coloured and glazed plates depicting images of soldiers and officers - many mounted on horseback. Small, measures approximately 16.5 cm x 11.5 cm closed, 16.5 cm x 262 cm when fully opened out. 1/4 cloth. Plates in VG clean condition, the binding Good but shaken/loose, with tears to the cloth along the edge of the backstrip. Owner name to front pastedown but remarkably clean and entirely free from foxing etc. No textual input other than occasional descriptive comments below the plates. A lovely item and quite scarce.
