About This Item

Tokyo, Japan: Photo Planet Publishers Tokyo, 1993. First Edition. First Printing.. Softcover. As New/No Dust Jacket, As Issued.. Tokyo, Japan: Photo Planet Publishers Tokyo, 1993. Softcover. As New/None, As Issued. First Edition/First Printing. 170 pages. Deja Vu Quarterly Special Edition. Retrospective of the photographer's body of work. The best introduction to Larry Clark's obsessive oeuvre. The Quarterly's Issue Number 13. The first and only edition. Published in a small and limited print run as a softcover original only. An Import title, none of the copies was commercially distributed in the United States. There is no ISBN. The Issue is now rare. A stunningly beautiful production by Photo Planet Publishers Tokyo: Oversize-volume format. Glossy pictorial softcovers, which show a Larry Clark "suicide" image (boy with a gun in his mouth) on the cover, with titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Photographs by Larry Clark. Text in Japanese and English originals. Small section devoted to Sebastiao Salgado appended at the end. Printed on pristine-white, thick glossy stock paper in Tokyo, Japan to the highest standards. The reproduction quality is outstanding in every respect, as one has come to expect of Japanese publishing. Without DJ, as issued. Presents "Larry Clark Deja Vu Magazine's Quarterly Issue #13". An 87-page retrospective on Larry Clark that is sumptuous and representative of his body of work. The continuity and internal coherence of his work are the result of his preoccupation with one subject: The troubled, drug- and sex-addicted, and apparently suicidal American youth. His imagery is generously selected for the reader, and even more important, presented in a significantly larger - therefore superior - format than the original volumes themselves: "Tulsa", "Teenage Lust", "1992", and "Collages 1989-1992", a selection that includes a Centerfold foldout which appears in this publication only. The Interviews with Clark are illuminating. The Sebastiao Salgado section at the end is a bonus, albeit in stark contrast to Larry Clark's gritty vision. An absolute "must-have" title for Larry Clark and Sebastiao Salgado collectors. This is a copy of the Deja Vu Magazine Quarterly Issue Number 13. It is very boldly and beautifully signed in black ink-pen by Larry Clark. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. This title is a contemporary art photography classic. As far as we know, this is the only such signed copy available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: This is an Import title. None of the copies was commercially distributed outside Japan. Copies available online have serious flaws yet are priced as though they had collectible value. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare signed copy thus. Lavishly illustrated with photographic plates. Larry Clark's "Tulsa" was selected as one of the greatest photography books in "The Photobook". Both "Tulsa" and "Teenage Lust" were selected as two of the "Seminal Photography Books of the 20th Century" in the "Book of 101 Books". One of the most influential photographers of our time. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER LARRY CLARK TITLES IN OUR CATALOG).
