About This Item

Champier (Victor) - Art in French Flanders in the 17th and 18th centuries, after the conquests of Louis XIV .. Illustrated book of 108 plates inset, reproducing the works of art that figured at the Retrospective Exhibition of Roubaix in 1911, 1926 [ L'Art dans les Flandres Françaises aux XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles, après les conquêtes de Louis XIV.. Ouvrage illustré de 108 planches hors-texte, reproduisant les ouvres d'art ayant figuré à l'Exposition rétrospective de Roubaix en 1911, 1926 [compte rendu]. Disbound. Rare. Highly detailed reproductions of important and unusual French arts. In 1876 Victor Champier founded the Society of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris, modeled on the South Kensington Museum in London. 11.5 inches by 15 inches. Each of the plates is 36.83 cm by 27.7 cm (14.5 inches by 10.75 inches) and is a separate sheet with a hard cardboard backing. This is what makes it heavy. There is an informative text sheet that is a protective layer, and sometimes this has text on both sides. There is some damage to two of the cardboard backings, one more severe but does not affect the image. The sheets and backings are otherwise in clean, very good condition. The outher casing is thin paper and was affected by the weight of the plates. There are two sections, a book sections, which also has illustrations, and the sheets section, which each has a thin paper guard with text on it. The book section is partially uncut on about 8 sheets. This weighs about 30 lbs so cannot send priority mail. Roubaix, Imprimerie Reboux, 1926. Folio (37.5 : 30.5 cm). 187 pages with illustrations and 108 plates with numerous monthly Fig. and captions on 108 interleaves. Roubaix, Imprimerie Reboux, 1926.
