An attractive illustrated Heritage Press edition of Lord Lytton's historical novel, set in Pompeii before the disastrous eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D. First published in 1834. With illustrations by Kurt Creamer. Includes an introduction by Edgar Johnson. Sandglass leaflet is missing. --- In full grey cloth-covered boards with patterned red period illustrations on covers; titling on black spine block in gilt, pale grey topstain. Book is housed in slipcase, which is covered in grey/brown paper. --- A tightly-bound, clean, sound copy but with discolored spine. Slipcase is torn along one corner, with general acidic staining and a bump to a corner, but mostly sturdy and able to protect the book.; Small Quarto - 9 to 11 in. tall; xxi, 513 pages .
