Aelfric followed and although influential during the short reign of Harthacnut he appears to have been politically sidelined during Harold?s reign. He was however the first Archbishop of York to travel to Rome to fetch his Pallium from the Pope. Cynesige held the position from 1051 to 1060. Little of political activity is mentioned in the chronicles of the time and it seems that he concentrated his power on elevating the standing of his diocese and was probably a humble and ascetic personality. Ealdred the last of the four was however an important player in the internal politics of the Confessor?s reign and was sent on several diplomatic missions. He was in the seat from 1060 until 1069 when the power of York diminished following the Norman conquest.* An AS NEW copy with no visible faults.*
