Black cloth, map & chronology on endpapers, xvii, 973 pp, 65 b/w illustrations (mostly photos), 18 maps, notes, bibliography, index. Boards are water-damaged (2 by 4 inch area at top right corner of front board, 3-inch triangle at bottom corner of rear board, and a small area at top corner of rear board (which also looks as if it has been bitten by a dog)), top edge spotted, internally very good. DJ looks near fine at first glance, but has a large black stain on reverse of front panel and rear flap has been torn off and reattached with tape; original price is clipped and new publisher's price tag on front flap. Shipping weight 5 lbs.. First Edition. . Fair/Good. 24 X 16 cm.
