About This Item

New York, NY: The Swallow Press And William Morrow. Very Good+ in Fair dust jacket. 1970. First Edition; Third Printing. Hardcover. Very Good+ in Fair DJ: The Book shows just a touch of wear to the lower corner tips; a couple of very faint smudges to the top edge of the text block; a former owner's address label affixed to the upper front free endpaper; the binding shows the very slightest lean, but remains perfectly secure; the text is clean. Free of any creased or dog-eared pages in the text. Free of any underlining, hi-lighting or marginalia or marks in the text. A handsome copy, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing minor, unobtrusive imperfections. The DJ shows heavy wear to the extremities with loss to chipping at the corner tips and at the backstrip; several short, closed tears to the outside edges and considerable soiling to the panels and backstrip; the price at least has not been clipped. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo (9.5 x 6.5 x 1.15 inches). Eight-page section of vintage duotone photographs. Maps. Foreward by Erle Stanley Gardner. Language: English. Weight: 22.2 ounces. First Edition [1977]; appears to be the third printing thereof (1977). Hardback with DJ. A family autobiography covering fourteen years of living in a covered wagon, virtually out of contact with European Americans. The setting is unexplored Idaho and eastern Nevada between 1896 and 1910. It is also the history of the discovery of the largest gold deposit discovered in Nevada in the early 20th Century. All written by one of the members of that family, making it first-hand eye-witness information. It details harvesting food with bow and arrow, armed encounters with on-the-run-criminals, being good friends with the Native Americans, and just plain pleasant family life unadorned with recently-invented electric light, telephones, and automobiles. It is also a little-known part of Western United States History. The forward to the book was written by Earl Stanley Gardner, the author of the famed 'Perry Mason' mysteries and a mid-20th Century adventurer in his own right and a long-time friend of the author. This a great read! ! ; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; vii, 308 pages .
