The Guide is divided into three topical and four chronological parts with 5625 of the 7087 citations devoted to the Colonial, Independence and post-Independence periods. Within each part sections are introduced by the contributor's survey statement on historiogrphical trends. Subdivisions usually begin by citing bibliographies and guides pertinent to the area with subsequent divisions topical arranged.
