About This Item

1821 1ed AUSTRIA Customs Austrian Culture Dress Costumes Serres Voyages NAPOLEON

Pierre Marcel de Serres was a 19th-century French naturalist who, in 1809, was commissioned by Napoleon to go on a mission to Austria and Bavaria. Napoleon had requested that Serres tour the major factories and iconic locations in Vienna with the intention of improving similar buildings in France. Following his voyage, Serres published a book of his discoveries, findings, and experiences in Austria in which he describes the people, customs, cultures, and history of Austria.

This impressive 1821 first edition work includes 48 hand-colored engravings, views of costume and dress.
