Introduction by G. M. Trevelyan, select bibliography. Light blue coloured end pages. Bright orange coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Illustrated dustwrapper with brown and black coloured titles to the front panel and black coloured titles to the back strip. Quoting from the front fold over panel blurb " ... (this book) presents this rich and varied selection from McCauley's prose and verse, which shows some of his more unsuspected facets of fantasy and humour. The literary themes of the essays take him as far you as Dante and Petrarch, from excellent portraits of Goldsmith and Johnson." Bumping of the book corners with softening of the back strip edges. Age toning of the text block edges with heavier age toning and some spotting to the top text edge. Some foxing to the end pages. Creasing to the dustwrapper edges with a couple of small tears to the top dustwrapper edge. Sunning of the back strip and there is foxing spots to the rear panel.
