About This Item

The presumed sole printing published by Rota-Sadaq in 1937.Folio with original card covers in near FINE condition.40 pages.A full size B/W cartoon for the years 1925-37 with accompanying explanatory text in both French and English on the facing page.Alois Derso (1888-1964) and Emery Kelen (1896-1978) were two internationally famous caricaturists who worked at the League of Nations for fifteen years. Both were of Hungarian origin and arrived in Switzerland after the First World War, where they drew caricatures of the League of Nations delegates and politicians,as well as significant events such as the Disarmament Conference. The book has been INSCRIBED and SIGNED in pencil by the authors to the title page:'A notre cher ami Vernon Bartlett, cordialement, Geneva , 14.1X.37, Derso and Kelen'.Vernon Bartlett was a journalist, politician and author who served as the Director for the London Office of the League of Nations. The Satirical cartoons are Derso and Kelen at their best.A truly wonderful association copy of a very scarce item. The print run is unknown and at the time of listing ,I can find only one other unsigned copy which is located in a UK university library. Ashtonrarebooks welcomes direct contact.
