Vol. 1 was published in 1835, vol. 2 in 1836, and vol. 3 in 1839. Errata on one page following text in vol. 1. The author, José Manuel de la Peña y Peña (1789-1850), was a pivotal figure in the establishment of the Mexican legal system. He was named to a seat on the first Mexican Supreme Court in Dec. 1824, a position he held almost continuously until his death; he was a professor of law at Universidad Nacional de Mexico; he became a senator in 1845; and he served as interim president of Mexico from 26 Sept. 1847 to 13 Nov. 1847, and as president from 8 Jan. 1848 to 3 June 1848. In Very Good- Condition: edges are rubbed, with minor loss at ends of spines; boards are scraped; paper labels removed from tail of spines, with minor scraping and shadow; one perforation from edge of vol. 2 back board through about half the pages along fore-edge, not impacting text; minimal foxing; clean and tight.

Published anonymously but attributed to the defendant, Charles Cornwallis, 3rd Baron Conwallis (1655-1698), who was tried for murder. He and another man, Charles Gerrard, while drunk and disorderly in the middle of the night threatened a sentinel (who was able to defend himself) and then two young men who were passing by. Gerrard attacked one of the young men, breaking his neck and killing him. Cornwallis was found not guilty of murder (although six of his peers found him guilty of manslaughter). In Near Fine- Condition: pages are lightly soiled.
