This American Edition, printed from the last London edition, edited by William James, mathematical instrument maker, is carefully revised and corrected, by Robert Patterson, Professor of Mathematicks, and Teacher of Natural Philosophy, in the University of Pennsylvania." 508 p., 10 folded leaves of engraved plates; 22 cm. Contemporary full calf with modern tissue joint repair; gilt-tooled decoration on spine. This volume includes lectures on optics, vision, telescopies and miscroscopes, areas of the author's specialization. The 10 plates all illustrate aspects of optics. In Very Good- Condition: lacking original spine label; tissue repair of joints and hinges; faint dampstain along lower edge of a few plates; plate IV has a separation of 2 cm. from upper edge along a fold, and plate X one of 3 cm.; some foxing on plates; otherwise, clean and tight.
