About This Item

New York: Ace Books, 1969. First Edition. Softcover. Near fine. 12mo, 286pp. A paperback original, which precedes the Walker hardcover edition slightly. A very nice example, fresh and clean, perhaps a tinge musty, but clearly unread. One faint spine crease, else very nice indeed; overall near fine. Retains the Science Fiction Book Club insert, bound in at p. 160. Le Guin's first widely celebrated novel, which won both the Nebula and the Hugo Awards in 1970, The Left Hand of Darkness is a pioneering feminist science fiction novel, which also explores themes of androgyny and religion. Rare in this condition.

Synopsis

The Left Hand of Darkness is a science fiction novel by Ursula K. Le Guin, first published in 1969. The book is one of the first major works of feminist science fiction and is one in a series of books by Le Guin all set in the fictional Hainish universe. It won the 1969 Nebula and 1970 Hugo awards. Plans for a feature film and video game based on the books were announced by Phobos Entertainment Holdings in 2004, but appear to have since stalled.

About Cleveland Book Company

We are proud members of the ABAA.

As a small, independent bookseller in Cleveland, Ohio, I deal in general used, rare, and antiquarian books, autographs, manuscripts, pamphlets, and personal and family papers in all subjects. My family has been in the antiquarian book business since 1971. Are you moving, downsizing, or doing some spring cleaning? Did you inherit or otherwise come into some old books? Or, maybe you've collected modern novels from the last thirty or fifty years. No matter what kinds of books you have, we'd love to take a look at them! We travel throughout Ohio, western Pennsylvania and New York, southern Michigan, and eastern Indiana, and will travel farther in some cases to look at whole libraries or even just a few particularly interesting books. Give us a call at (216) 352-3940 and we can talk more about the kinds of books you have.
