About This Item
Penguin Books, Harmondsworth, Middlesex, 1972. Reprint. Softcover. Very Good Condition. Translators' introduction, six tables, and afterword by Lord Boyle of Handsworth. Photographic paperback binding with pink and black coloured titles to the front panel and black and white coloured titles to the back strip. Quoting from the rear panel blurb " ... Eight young Italian boys from the mountains outside Florence wrote this passionate and eloquent book. It took them a year. Simply and clearly, with some devastating statistical analysis of the Italian education system, they set out to show the ways in which attitudes towards class, behaviour, language and subject-matter militate against the poor. They describe, too, the reforms they propose, and the methods they use in their own school  the School of Barbiana, started under the guidance of the parish priest and now entirely run by the children." A little creasing of the top book corners with rubbing of the edges, panels and either side of the back strip. Very light age toning of the text block edges and pages. Size: 12 mo (standard paperback). 138, [6  further titles from publishing house] pages,. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo.
