Born in Normandy in 1735, Hector St. John de Crèvecoeur emigrated to the New World, traveled widely in Pennsylvania, New York and Massachusetts, and wrote about what he saw. His letters provide a glimpse of life in British colonies in the 18th century. With introduction and notes by W. Barton Blake and facsimile of original 1782 title page. Entry 640 in Everyman's Library Travel and Topography series. --- In Everyman's Library binding style 3 with full green cloth and gilt-stamped spine titling; blindstamped Eric Ravilious-designed 'shell' to cover and brown topstain. Green jacket features 'EL' design on shell to cover. --- A clean, unmarked, firmly-bound copy. Somewhat brittle jacket with a few tears and chipping, a strip of damage from tape removal to front panel and some age-toning but remaining mostly intact and protected in removable mylar wrappers.; 16mo - 6 to 7 in. tall; xiii, 256 pages .
