London: Printed for R. Dodsley in Pall-Mall, 1748. First Edition. Octavo. Nounted engraved frontispiece of Melmoth. [8] 192 pages, [6]pp. contents, (1)pp. errata. Title in red and black. Melmoth as well-known as a translator but this volume deals with his themes of retirement, friendship and rhetorical style. This became one of Dodsley's best-sellers. Bound in a modern brown leather to style, raised bands compartments stamped in blind, lettering gilt. A very handsome copy.
