New York : Harper and Brothers, 1906. First edition/First impression. Size is octavo (8vo), 8.375"/21.2cm h. Bound in publisher's navy cloth with gilt lettering to front board/spine. Gilt topstain, deckle fore- and tail-edges. Plain white endpapers. Pagination, Vol I: [i-ii], iii-ix, x-xv; 1-501, [502] blank; unpaginated frontispiece plus three additional sheets; Vol II: [i-ii], iii-vii, [viii-xii], 503-1027, [1028] final index p, [1029-1032] blank; unpaginated frontispiece plus three additional sheets. Illus, a few sketches, index. Condition notes:  Moderate wear/rubbing to boards, with sun darkening to spines, rolled spine ends and bumped corners; head of Vol I spine end frayed; chip to tail rear board Vol I with 8mm square cloth missing (board intact); light soiling to edges. Bindings with slight lean; Vol I hinges whole but weakening; Vol II likewise with more progression; each front pastedown shows discreet but noticeable rectangle of remnant adhesive from removed bookplate; Vol II neatly '902' to this spot. Vol II rfep loose. Interior tanned but clean, with occasional pencil marginalia. Wallace commanded troops at Forts Henry and Donelson, Shiloh, Corinth, and the Monocacy/Frederick, among others; later famously penned Ben-Hur, the highest-selling American novel of the 19th Century. In 2021 Paul was accepted as a member of the Independent Online Booksellers' Association (IOBA), and graduated from the annual Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar (CABS-Minnesota).
