Paris: Moutardier, Libraire, 1797. First edition in French. Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo. [4], 7-400, [4] pp. Contemporary calf with the spine in six compartments, a red morocco label on the spine, gilt decorations on the spine, gilt gauffering to the edges; all edges decoratively stained red. Marbled endpapers and pastedowns. Translated for the first time from Greek into French by J.J.A. Caussin. Brunet 130. Graesse 165. Moss 71 (Moss cites the second edition). The first edition of The Argonautica in French, this translation greatly esteemed for its style and language. Our copy has no leaf signed a3, and accords with the Bibliotheque Nationale de France's copy. We could not locate another copy online with a3. The joints and one corner are touched up.
