Paris, De l'imprimerie de Michel de Vascosan, M.D.LVIIII (1559).. TITLE CONTINUED: translatee de grec en françois par feu Messire Claude de Seyssel. 1559, divided into 8 books. Folio, approximately 335 x 220 mm, 13¼ x 9 inches, decorated headpiece at beginning of each book, pictorial initials, text in French. Leaves: [12], 1-244, numbered on rectos only (a total of 512 pages), bound in full modern hard vellum, black lettering to spine, central design with initials of a previous owner 'William Stirling Maxwell' with his large bookplate on first pastedown, all edges red. Title page slightly dusty, some pale stains to lower margins of 4 pages at rear, nowhere near text, occasional pale age-browning to margins and occasional small brown spot, a few small dotted illustrations in margins at beginning of book, pinhead worm hole to outer margins from title page to leaf 138, nowhere near text, last page has pale age-browning, very old illegible ink name to last page (see attached image), otherwise a very good clean copy. William Sterling Maxwell was an expert on Spanish paintings and was the author of Annals of Artists of Spain.
