(8 x 5.6 inches). iv, 112pp. Contains the fifth and first edition texts, plus notes on Omar Khayyam and the poem, and comparisons between the first four editions. Finely bound, for Hatchards, in early full dark purple morocco. Spine with five raised bands, each with gilt piping. Compartments lettered and decorated in gilt. Front board with elaborate decorative floral design in gilt, embellished with red morocco inlay dots. Rear board with double gilt ruled border with red inlay dots to the corners of the inner border. Board edges with single gilt rule. Inner board edges with tripe ruled line borders and dotted corners. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Some very light rubbing to extremities and the colouring is faintly darker to the outer boards but overall a lovely copy in a highly decorative early twentieth century fine leather binding.

IN THE ORIGINAL PICTORIAL DUST JACKET AND CARDBOARD SLIPCASE (the jacket backed with paper to repair chips at head edge, the slipcase slightly worn). The compartments are lettered, decorated and ruled in gilt. Gilt illustration of a Leprechaun stood next to his crock of gold to the upper board. Both boards with double gilt ruled borders. Marbled endpapers, gilt inner dentelles. Top edge gilt. A fine copy housed in a velvet lined plain clam shell box with blue cloth covering. A fine leather bound copy of this wonderfully illustrated edition.

Nugent completed Vol I and then travelled to Mecklenburg to gather material for a second volume. Free access to ducal archives and opportunities to meet other scholars provided a wealth of material. Comprising Book III - reign of Pribislaus II to Albert I 1329; and Book IV - of the Dukes of Mecklenburg, from Albert I to Henry the Fat, 1329-1423. Complete with 2 full page engravings. Bound in an exceptional contemporary full leather binding with extensive gilt tooling and an intricate star design to boards. Raised bands to spine. The binding has some darkening to the spine, some tenderness at the top of the joint with the front board, and some wear to corners and edges. Marbled endpapers. Aeg. Contents in very good condition - occasional light spotting and some offsetting from the engravings to the text. A lovely volume.

Red cloth on boards. Top edge gilt. A small amount of wear to the extremities and some marks to the cloth boards but still overall a very good, attractive copy.
