New York: Richard Marek Publishers, 1981. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Inscribed by John Gardner on the front endpaper. Very Good in a Very Good jacket, unclipped ($9.95), rubbed at the surface and edges, a few small closed tears at the rear and folds. Black paper, lightly soiled, with gilt lettering on the spine. Square and firmly bound, foxed at the top edge, tidemark on the front endpapers, clean otherwise. Gardner's first James Bond novel, one that sees 007 take on a terrorist with intentions of nuclear war.

Synopsis

Licence Renewed (published in American editions as License Renewed), first published in 1981, is the first novel by John Gardner featuring Ian Fleming's secret agent, James Bond. It was the first proper James Bond novel (not counting novelisations and a faux biography) since Kingsley Amis's Colonel Sun in 1968. Carrying the Glidrose Publications copyright, it was first published in the United Kingdom by Jonathan Cape and in the United States by Richard Marek.
