About This Item
Book Guild, publishers, Sussex, UK 1983 hardcover, 5¾" x 8¾", with dust jacket Ours is an ex-library copy in transparent protective covering, with usual stickers, barcode, etc. Slight lean to spine. GOOD book in GOOD unclipped dust jacket In the Burmese jungles between 1928 and 1950, English gentlemen extracted vaulable teak timber, using local elephants as a means of natural power. A A Lawson has provided a detailed account of this exotic phase which has long since ceased (the forests were nationalised in 1948). A rebellion in 1930-31, in which the author was involved, interrupted the jungle peace. Here is a unique account of bygone days. Seventeen b&w photpgraphs, and maps.
