About This Item
London: Jackson and Walford, 1846. First edition, 1846. Note: beautiful bindings but front covers detached. A life of Foster chiefly comprised of his letters, together with a biographical overview. Bound in full polished calf, with raised spine bands, decorated compartments, dual spine labels in red and black, yellow tinted edges, frontis portrait in volume I, (vii, 468 + 590, 2 p. errata). Armorial bookplates of Henry Collins in each volume. As noted, both front covers detached, otherwise the volumes have only light shelfwear, rear joint of volume I starting to separate a bit, a light scratch to the lower spine label of volume II, but internally fresh and clean, with light foxing to frontis only. Foster was a noted theologian of his time whose primary dissent with church doctrine involved "Duration of Future Punishment", which is treated at length in some of the letters included in the work. . First Edition. Full-Leather. Fair. 8vo (8.75" x 5.5" or 22 cm x 14 cm).
