London, UK: J S Virtue & Co. Hardcover. Good. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Robinson, H; Brandard, E (engravers); Durham, J; Bartlett, W H (artists); et al. Undated (circa 1880s). Two volumes bound in one. Vol 1: 236pp, 14 black and white steel plates including frontispiece and vignette. Vol 2: 234pp, 17 black and white steel plates including frontispiece and vignette. Half-bound in maroon leather over maroon cloth-covered boards. Gilt titles and royal crest on front; 5 spine ribs, gilt titles and decoration on spine; text block edges gilt. 4to. A large and very heavy set which will require an additional charge for overseas delivery. Rubbed spine ends and joints, corners heavily rubbed exposing board at lower front corner. Boards have moderate shelf wear, rubbed and soiled. Endpapers and prelims lightly tanned with foxing in places, bleed from boards to edges of front papers, hinge slightly strained to front. Internally foxing and tanning mainly to page margins throughout; intensity varies greatly, otherwise a neat, bright and tight volume. Preface by Ronald Gower.
