London: John Murray, 1901. First edition.. Outer top corner of the text of volume 1 with slight bump, a bright, near fine set.. Pp. xv, 330; ix, 300, with 30 full page plates, and illustrations. Contemporary three-quarter red Morocco leather, spine with 5 raised bands, lettered in gilt in two compartments and with elaborate gilt floral designs in the four other compartments, over blue marbled boards with matching marbled endpapers, top page edge in gilt, 8vo. An elegant and beautifully bound copy of the first edition. From the research collection of herpetologist Lauren E. Brown with his signature on the half-title page dated 2008.
