This volume covers Hay's life from 1877 through 1905. John Hay was an American statesman, diplomat, author, journalist, and private secretary and assistant to Abraham Lincoln. He also served as Secretary of State under William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt, and helped to negotiate the Treaty of Paris of 1898, which ended the Spanish-American War.
