Original dark blue cloth boards with elaborate gilt decoration and title on front, gilt title and similar decoration of spine. Slight fading at joint front in Volume I. Minor bumping to head and tail of spine, both volumes. 9 black-and-white photographs, and 309 black-and-white illustrations in text throughout both volumes. Text-block of Volume II slightly convened. Volume II has bookplate on paste-down end-paper which has offset very lightly on front free end-paper. very good Bookplate of John Laidlay Bashford. Bashford was a journalist and social historian. For eighteen years he served as the Berlin correspondent to the London Daily Telegraph. Sir John Everett Millais was an English painter and illustrator who was one of the founders of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. An excellent addition to any Pre-Raphaelite collection. 1899
