A biography of influential American journalist, editor, and diplomat Walter Hines Page. Page (1855-1918) was an important figure in American journalism and later served as the United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom during the critical years leading up to and during World War I.
Burton J. Hendrick, the author, was a Pulitzer Prize-winning American biographer and historian. In this work, Hendrick draws on a variety of sources, including Page's personal letters, to provide a comprehensive account of Page's life, career, and contributions to American diplomacy and journalism.
The biography covers Page's early life, his career in journalism as the editor of publications like "The Atlantic Monthly" and "World's Work," and his later role as a diplomat. One of the focal points of the book is Page's tenure as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom from 1913 to 1918. During this period, he played a crucial role in navigating U.S.-British relations and was involved in diplomatic efforts to address the challenges posed by World War I.
"The Life and Letters of Walter H. Page" not only chronicles the professional achievements of Walter H. Page but also delves into his personal life, providing readers with a more intimate understanding of the man behind the public figure.
