Chapman and Hall, 1864. Hardcover. Acceptable. 1864. No Edition Remarks. 626 pages. No dust jacket. Magenta embossed cloth with gilt lettering to spine. Pages are rough cut. Front and rear boards are notably mottled with mould. Pages are bright with light tanning and foxing to free endpapers and text block edges. Pencil inscription to front free endpaper and paste-down, with a few small nicks and creases along text block edge. Heavy cracking to gutters with exposed netting. Binding is quite loose. Occasional thumb-marking present throughout. Former owner's inscription to half title page. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with noticeable bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Heavy tanning to spine and edges, with visible crushing to spine ends. Book has a pronounced forward lean. Front and rear boards are notably mottled with mould. Ink drops down spine, with a small dent to rear board.
