London: W. Kent Late D. Bogue. 1859.. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. Engraved portrait, xvi, 420 pages. 20 x 14 cm. Original blind-stamped cloth, gilt on spines. Only very slight rubbing to edges and corners. From the Library of Gilbert a'Beckett, dated and signed at Christ Church, Oxford. Ownership inscription of Gilbert Arthur a'Beckett. He was an English writer who contributed to Punch and wrote plays. Born in 1837 he attended Christ Church, Oxford between 1855 and 1860. He died in 1891. He was the son of humourist Gilbert Abbott a'Beckett, 1811 - 1856, who also wrote for Punch and was the author of 'A Comic History of England'. Bookplate of Victor Crittenden, 1925 - 2014, Australian garden historian and founder of the Mulini Press
