Illustrated by Hardy's widow, Florence. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing. Rem mk to lower edge. Internals in Fine Condition. Thomas Hardy, 1840-1928, English novelist and poet. His Wessex novels are set in the semi-fictional area of Wessex, focusing on a declining rural society. His characters are tragic and passionate, and struggle against these passions and their social circumstances. This illustrated biography presents in one book the two-volume biography first published shortly after Hardy's death in 1928. It is a portrait of the man and of the writer. Drawing on letters, diaries, and conversations they shared, Florence Hardy traces his career from his early days as an architect through the success of his Wessex novels, to the verse writing of his final years. 1994, Studio Editions, Ltd., London, England.
