The Life and Times of Lord Mountbatten by John Terraine, signed by Louis Mountbatten, Earl Mountbatten of Burma.. Octavo, x, 197pp. Blue cloth, title stamped in gilt on spine. Stated "first published 1968" on copyright page. Light foxing along top edge of text block, internally clean. In the publisher's dust jacket, price clipped, light sunning to spine, bright illustrations on covers. Signed on the half title: "Mountbatten of Burma, A.F." Lord Louis Mountbatten (1900-1979), born Louis Francis Albert Victor Nicholas Mountbatten in 1900, was a prominent British Royal Navy officer and statesman. He served during World War II as Supreme Allied Commander in South East Asia Command, where he oversaw the recapture of Burma from the Japanese. Post World War II, Mountbatten was the last Viceroy of India, overseeing the transition to independence for India and Pakistan. His later career included serving as First Sea Lord and Chief of the Defense Staff. Mountbatten was known for his royal connections as a great-grandson of Queen Victoria and an uncle of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His life tragically ended in 1979 when he was assassinated by the Irish Republican Army (IRA) via a bomb placed aboard his fishing boat.
