Good plus. 8vo, 608 pages, [viii] publisher's ads, original green embossed cloth, with some silverfish tracks on the spine and rear cover, corners worn. SURPRISINGLY SCARCE VARIANT. Not in Graff or Soliday ( Eberstadt had the 1870 edition, but it is incorrectly cited at catalog ll4:456, but it is actually 114:546].
The new Second Part begins at p. 541. "No apology is necessary for presenting these additional chapters, bringing the history of Utah down to the preent time. The affairs of that Territory, since the openeing of the year 1870 have been of the most absorbing interest, and must continue for some time to attract the attention of the country. ... It is believed that the chapter on mines will be of special interest.... " With a new wood engraving of Salt Lake City. [ Flake/Draper 344]. Beadle left Indiana and lived for years in the West, especially as Editor of the "Salt Lake Reporter". Both a lawyer and a journalist, Beadle's anti-Mormon columns and books were a vertiable bastinado of hyperbole, designed to quash any incipient admiration for Mormon industry, sobriety, and brotherly love - Leonard Arrington.": Illustrated with 38 woodcuts.

Joyce And Company has been in business as a professional rare bookseller and appraiser since 1975. Owner Thomas Joyce was the regular book appraiser on Home & Garden TV\'s \"The Appraisal Fair\\\" program, on international broadcasts. Thomas Joyce was the co-discoverer of George Washington's personal copy of William Leybourn's 1679 edition of THE COMPLEAT SURVEYOR, from which young Washington learned some of his surveying skills at age 16. The book had vanished for nearly a century until its re-discovery in 2017. It is now back at Mt. Vernon.
