SIGNED. 8vo; [i-vii], viii-ix, [3], 12-136pp; gilt stamped title and decoration on blue cloth over board, beveled board edges, blind stamped borders; inscribed and signed by author on free front endpaper; illustrated; scuffing and fraying to head and tail of spine, ½" scrape to mid spine with loss of cloth, rubbing to gilt decoration of front cover, light age toning paper; very good. Inscribed and signed by the author to Captain J.G. Kiah [Jerome], Superintendent of the 10th District United States Life-Saving Service. The USLSS was the precursor to the U.S.Coast Guard. In 1903 Capt. Kiah was the Superintendent of the 10th District at Sand Beach, Michigan. The author was a Captain in the Dominion of Canada Life-Saving Service. A fascinating book, highly illustrated with instructive drawings.
