About This Item
Exposition Press, 1972. Very Good Plus. First Edition, octavo hardcover in original dust jacket. Incredibly scarce novel about police brutality against homosexuals in Los Angeles, by the president of the Institute of Psychological Research and Education, a nonprofit organization devoted to helping “sexual deviants.” Little known of Allen, his work, or those he’s helped, apart from tidbits about the subsequent 1973 film Allen wrote directed and starred in. Gay and lesbian communities in Los Angeles rose after counterculture of the 1960s, Haight-Ashbury, Sunset Strip riots, and Stonewall, and set the scene for numerous organizations in the AIDS fueled 1980s. Early documents like Allen’s on police violence are foundational to understanding what’s happening today, especially here in Baltimore. Very Good Plus in like jacket. Light rubbing and toning, endpapers with offsetting, brief foxing, and jacket with rubbing, toning, foxing, a few small tears and tiny chips.
