About This Item
Scarsdale, NY: Morgan & Morgan Publishers, 1953. First Edition. Limited to 850 unnumbered copies. Signed presentation from Reid on the half-title page: "Love to Norman and Ruth from Alastair in Spring, 1953." With an amusing inscribed card signed, on Morgan & Morgan stationery, laid in from publisher Marian Bryan: "Here is the great opus. I want to give you a copy- please. Best tell your friends there should be two in every literate home. Marian." Alastair Reid [1926-2014) was a Scottish poet and a scholar of South American literature, especially for his translations of Jorge Luis Borge and Pablo Neruda. He is also known for his light-hearted style of poems. An unusual copy with the note from the publisher. Whoever Norman and Ruth are?- they certainly got one of the very first copies!. Tall 8vo., gray cloth in dust jacket; 53 pages. Very Good (edges of covers faded; contents clean & tight); some wear (some darkening spine with interior repairs with clear, archival tape, two chips top of rear panel) d/j.
