About This Item
New York: Totem Press / Corinth Books, 1960. First Edition. Very good +.. Signed first printing of this early collection by this countercultural poet, published at the dawn of the 1960s in an attractive edition. This copy's history shows an interesting triangle of association between Whalen, Young, and Berrigan (who gave the book to Young). Wraps. 8vo. Original wraps. Very good plus or better. SIGNED by Whalen, underneath his printed name on title page. PROVENANCE: Formerly owned by Izzy Young, with his name written on rear free endpaper ("Israel G. Young, May 18 1966, from Ted Berrigan"). Young was a central figure throughout the 1960s NYC music and literary scenes; he founded the Folklore Center, and produced Dylan's first concert in 1961. Book shows mild dampstains and toning to wraps. Interior bright and clean throughout. Good and sound. 47pp.
